WHy do ligands have to have atleast one lone pair?

Ligands have at least one donor atom with an electron pair used to form covalent bonds with the central atom.

they have to use lone pairs to form coordinative bondS with the TM ion.

Monodentate ligand is a lewis base that donates one lone pair of electrons to a TM ion to form a bond.
Biodentate ligand is a lewis base that donates 2 lone paris of electrons to a TM ion to form 2 bond.

Yeah the lone pair is essentially what makes the molecule the ligand.
The ligand provides the lone pair to bond with the transition metal when the transition metal doesn't have an electron of its own to share.

Ligands are lewis bases that donate a lone pair to the central transition metal in a complex to form a coordinate bond. That is why it needs at least one lone pair of electrons or it has no lone pair to donate to the central atom.

They must contain at least one pair of nonbonding electrons that can be donated to a metal ion.

Is this topic going to be on the final?

Ligands must at least have one lone pair to donate to the central atom (hence creating a coordination between the two atoms).

Ligands need to have at least one lone pair in order to bind to the metal and form a molecule.
