Phosphate Lewis structure?
This is a question from test 3. What would the correct lewis structure for a phosphate molecule be?

Re: Phosphate Lewis structure?
The molecular formula for phosphate is [PO4]3-, so phosphorus will be the central atom, with all of the oxygens connected to it. One of the oxygens will form a double bond with the phosphorus, adding resonance to the structure. All of the oxygens have their octets satisfied.

Re: Phosphate Lewis structure?
the atoms in the 3rd row and below on the periodic table can break the octet rule since they have additional orbitals.
