Ch 4 clarification

What does it mean when it asks for you to, '"Describe the structure of a molecule, cation, or anion in terms of hybrid orbitals and sigma and
pi bonds"

So when describing the structure in terms of hybrid orbitals it is referring to hybridization where you would
1. Look at the atom.

2. Count the number of atoms connected to it (not bonds – atoms).

3. Count the number of lone pairs attached to it.

4. Add these two numbers together.

5. put this number in hybridization form ex: sp3 , sp2

Sigma and pi bonds are covalent and are the overlapping sections of atomic orbitals

Can anyone explain how we come to the conclusion of a hybrids that are sp3,sp2, etc? I am lost on how we determine which hybridization form a molecule would be.
