Solubility and Polarity

Postby Priscilla Okaiteye » Fri Jun 08, 2018 2:46 am

Hi. Just a quick question. Can someone please clarify the relationship between something being polar and something being soluble?

polarity does affect solubility in water, because like dissolves like. If the substance is polar it will dissolve well, and if it is nonpolar, the substance will not dissolve as well.

I thought if it was non polar it does no dissolve at all, is that not true? Because isn't the polarity also used to describe its relationship with water? Or could be used to describe its relationship with water?

Things that are non polar wont dissolve at all in water. Ex. Oil when mixed with water
