Oxidation Number

Postby Natalie_Martinez_1I » Wed Jun 13, 2018 3:51 pm

Are oxidation number and ionic charge the same? Like is the charge of an anion the same thing as its oxidation number?

An atom is said to have a nonzero net charge only when it either loses or gains electrons to become an ion.
Ionic charge >3+, 3-
Charge on an atom inside a compound
Oxidation number >+3, -3
