Oxidation State

How do you determine the oxidation state of a coordinate complex?

EX: Na2(PtBr4)

Also to add does anyone know if we are responsible for naming complex ions before determining the oxidation number? Do we need to name the compounds like the chapter 17 hw questions say or will they be given to us??
