Element Names & Symbols

On Outline 1 for Test 1 this week, Dr. Lavelle says we need to be able to write symbols for the elements, given their names, and vice versa. Does anyone know which elements we should know for sure?

I spoke to my TA, and really they are only looking for you to know the fundamental compounds. For example, Water (H20), Carbon Dioxide (C02), and the diatomic gases (H2, F2, etc.) Remember that a periodic table should be given for the exam!

My TA said that a periodic table will be given to you on the day of the test and Mr. Lavelle said that you don't need to memorize any polyatomic ions.
