Homework Question 1A15

In the ultraviolet spectrum of atomic hydrogen, a line is observed at 102.6nm. Determine the values of n for the initial and final energy levels of the electron during the emissions of energy that leads to this spectral line.

The first step is knowing that this transition is in the Lyman series, but I'm also not sure where to go after this.

Since you know that it is part of the Lymann series (because it is a Hydrogen in the UV spectrum), you can fill in that the final n value is n=1. Then, you can plug that into the equation (frequency= Rydberg's constant((1/final n^2)-(1/initial n^2) and solve!
