E=hv
In the equation E=hv, I know E stands for energy, but specifically what energy? Like threshold energy or energy of the photons?

E is the energy of light, which is measured in photons. A photon is the quantum of electromagnetic radiation.

I believe that f and v both symbolize frequency. I think that v is just more commonly used in chemistry while f is more preferred in physics.

Since electromagnetic radiation acts like particles, E in this equation stands for the energy per photon.

v is the symbol for frequency, so both equations are equivalent
