### What is a black body?

Could someone explain to me what a black body actually is? Also, will we need to know anything about black bodies for future tests or should I just not worry about it?

I think one of the video modules we watched. Professor Lavelle said we wouldn't be dealing with black bodies in 14A

The textbook explains black body as the "hot object" and basically means that it is an object that is extremely hot (so hot it glows white) because it doesn't favor one wavelength over another, in the sense of choosing a wavelength to absorb or emit.

For a black body, as the temperature increases the max intensity of radiation produces shorter wavelengths as well

Professor Lavelle told us during lecture to not worry about black bodies for now so I believe you can just not worry about it for now.

### Re: What is a black body?

A black body is a theoretical material that can absorb all wavelengths of light; however, Dr. Lavelle said we didn't need to worry about it.

A black body is a material that can hypothetically absorb all light frequencies.
