Required knowledge for test/midterm [ENDORSED]

Hi,

I wanted to know what is the requiered knowledge of formula/value for test on the Quantum chapter.
For example, is it requiered to know:
- the conversion from electrovolt to jouls
- the plank constant
- the mass of an electron
- the speed of light

...

I assume like the last test we get all the constants and equations necessary on the cover page and would just have to derive the equations not given.

On his site I believe he has the sheet with all the equations he will give. To play it safe, if it isn't on the sheet you may want to try and remember it.

I am pretty sure the formulas and constants are on a formula sheet in the front like the first test, so you should focus on being able to solve the questions. However, you should also be comfortable with all the numbers and understand all the equations and what the constants are.

Another helpful resource to see what will be tested for Quantum is the outline. Go to the "Quantum World" outline on his site and you can find everything he requires for this test.

He will most likely give you constants and other basic equations in order to help you like on the first test, but if you struggled with the time limit on the first test memorizing certain basic equations might help to cut time when taking the next test.

The tests don't weigh as much as the midterm and final do, if you do well on the midterms and final, and one of the three tests, then you are fine.
The following is taken straight from the syllabus:

"Weekly Homework (7 pts per week) 70 pts
Weekly Online Discussion (3 pts per week) 30 pts
Three Tests (3 x 40 minutes) 120 pts
Two Hour Midterm (110 minutes) 110 pts
Three Hour Final (170 minutes) 170 pts
Total 500 pts"

"Each test and exam has a total score but is not assigned a grade. Only at the end of the class when the class average score (out of 500 points) is known are final grades assigned. This class does not use a curve. Group learning (Chemistry Community, Study Groups, Peer Learning, etc.) is encouraged. 50% or higher is required to pass with a C- or higher."

Pr. Lavelle said that we had to study the content until this friday lecture in class. I meant what are the formula and constants that were required to know. According to my TA most of the constant will be given on the front page.

While you won't have to remember the equations for the test, it'll be important to remember the SI units for these formulas such as whether a formula requires meters or kilometers and converting accordingly.

If you email your TA you should be able to set up a meeting to review your Midterm (in a secure setting to optimize test-safety/prevent cheating/etc.)!

I think all the things we are expected to know are given on the formula sheet and if it isn't on there it will likely be given in the individual question which requires it. Otherwise I would just make sure to know how to use each thing and what it is used for and you should be set.
