electrons

What are the factors affecting the energy of an electron in a many-electron atom?

I'm not completely sure myself, but I'm thinking it probably has to do with electron-electron repulsion. So, if there are multiple electrons, you have to take into account the differences in their movement due to electrons trying to avoid each other. But, I'm not totally sure how this affects their energy.

Right, id think the amount of electrons would play a role in the energy of the electron due to the repulsion. I would also think then that the element plays a role due to the amount of protons and neutrons, which keep the atom together and thus change the amount of energy needed to excite the electron.

It is impacted by electron repulsion, where electrons repel each other because of their charge. Electrons will stay as far as they can from each other, while also still staying in their orbital.
