Trends in the periodic table

Postby Ariana Morales » Sun Oct 28, 2018 10:38 pm

What do the trends in the periodic table tell us about electron affinity and the orbital energies in elements?

Electron affinity generally increases from left to right and from bottom to top because the electrons added to the energy levels come closer to the nucleus, so theres a stronger attraction between the electrons and its nucleus.

The trends of electron affinity in the periodic table are that electron affinity increases as it goes up the groups and across the periods from left to right. This happens because electrons added to energy levels get closer to the nucleus so there is a stronger attraction between the nucleus and its electrons.
