kekule structure?

Postby Erica Li 1C » Tue Oct 30, 2018 3:31 pm

The book mentioned something about a Kekule structure but I didn't really understand what that was/the significance of it. Could someone explain it to me?

Kekule structures seem to be Lewis structures but without lone pairs or formal charge indicated on them.

Hello!

What i know is that the kekule structure of benzene (C6H6) is the one where the carbons form a hexagon ring and there are orienting double and single bonds. This model has however, been disproven experimentally, which is why a better representation of the benzene compound is the one with the 6 carbons in a hexagon, but with a ring of delocalized electrons.

Hope this helps :)
