Why is it important to know about the Shrodinger equation?

This equation uses the wave function to describe valence electrons in an atom and uses the concept that valence electrons with wavelike properties and indeterminacy in momentum and position, can be described by wave function.

don't worry about deriving the Schrodinger's equation because that requires 2nd level derivatives but for now, the quantum numbers that we use
(n, l, ml, ms) are derived from the Schrodinger's equation.
