Isoelectronic
What does isoelectronic mean? It was #5D on the midterm. The question asked to choose the two ions that were not isoelectronic with fluoride ion (F-). I answered correctly with the ions O- and N2- but I do not fully understand the concept.

Re: Isoelectronic
Isoelectronic means that the two ions have the same number of valence electrons.
F- has valence 8 electrons
Because O- and N2- each have only 7 valence electrons, they are not isoelectronic with F-

Re: Isoelectronic
Isoelectronic means that both atoms have the same number of valence electrons. Ex: Na+,F-

Re: Isoelectronic
Isoelectric means 2 atoms that share the same electron configuration of the outermost shell (share the same number of valence electrons)

Re: Isoelectronic
Isoelectric means that two atoms have the same number of valence electrons. F- would have 8 valence electrons. O- would have 7 valence electrons. N2- would have 7 valence electrons. Therefore these two atoms are not isoelectronic to F- as they both have one less valence electron.
