VSEPR determining shape
How do you figure out the shape of a compound? Is it just based off of the number of bonding pairs on the central atom?

Re: VSEPR determining shape
To determine, the shape (molecular geometry) of a molecule, you would have to consider the number of electron groups which comprises of both bonding pairs and lone pairs.

Re: VSEPR determining shape
To figure out the shape, model out the Lewis dot structure of the molecule, figure out the number of bonding pairs and lone pairs around the main/central atom, use VSEPR to figure out the electron pair shape of the molecule and the VSEPR shape to then figure out the angles between that are found between each of the bonding pairs.
