Quantum Test

Hi all,
I seem to be having a lot of trouble with the quantum section. It is always very confusing to be as to which equations I should be using and when? Is there any sources you guys can provide that you think helped you for the test?

The step up and workshop sessions are very helpful as well. Kahn Academy has videos online that cover all of the material discussed thus far in class and cover all the basics in a slow and detailed manner. Professor's videos on his website are also very helpful because you can pause and rewind as much as you would like. But the most helpful would probably be just reviewing and understanding the homework problems as much as possible.

If you get confused, I find that reading through the chapter in the book helps, as well as watching outside videos. However, if you keep practicing the problems, it will become fairly easy which formulas to use.

For me Khan Academy helps a lot and also watching Lavelle's modules since you can stop if you are confused and rewatch sections that you may not understand.

Review his notes a couple times because he talks about everything during class, and then I do practice problems from the book because it exposes you to different ways he might ask a question on the exam. Good luck!

Since the equations are all provided for us, I think we just have to understand when to use them. E = hν, c = λν, and, therefore, E = hc/λ, are only used for calculations relating to light/photons. De Broglie's equation, λ = h/mv, is mostly used for particles that have mass, but it can also be applicable to photons. The Rydberg equation calculates the change in energy when an electron moves from one energy level to another. Heisenberg's equation calculates the level of uncertainty with either location or velocity of an electron.

Something that helps me a lot is to remember that when solving for wavelength, wavelength = hc/E is used when looking at photons, whereas the De Broglie wavelength equation, wavelength = h/p is used when looking at particles that have mass.

I reccommend watching khan academy or reading through the textbook. Rewriting the notes was particularly helpful to me
