Hydrogen Bonds

Postby Cecilia Jardon 1I » Sat Nov 10, 2018 3:29 pm

Are hydrogen bonds a type of dipole-dipole bonds? And what are the atoms that it can bond with?

Hydrogen bonding is a dipole-dipole bonding. It interacts with N,O,F atoms.

Hydrogen bonds only occur if the hydrogen atom is bound to N, O, or F and the partial positive charge created on the hydrogen atom is attracted to the partial negative charge on the N, O, or F atom.

Yep, hydrogen bonding is a dipole-dipole force that is stronger than induced-dipole but weaker than the ion-dipole force.

So hydrogen bonds consist of three different intermolecular forces: hydrogen bond, dipole-dipole, and london?

Hydrogen bonds are a type of dipole-dipole force and only work with N, O ,F atoms

yes its a dipole-dipole bond and it only works with the atoms N O F

A hydrogen bond occurs only between a hydrogen atom and nitrogen, oxygen, or fluorine. A hydrogen bond in this sense is a covalent bond between a hydrogen atom and a highly electronegative atom with an available lone pair of electrons.

Yes they are! And hydrogen can be bonded to F, O, and N.

Yes, hydrogen bonds are dipole-dipole interactions between hydrogen and N,O, or F.

Yes, Hydrogen Bonds are dipole-dipoles with N,O, and F. Not all dipole-dipoles are hydrogen bonds though, while all hydrogen bonds are dipole dipoles.

They bond with O,N,and F and are dipole-duple bonds

So molecules that have hydrogen bonding also have dipole-dipole and ldf as well?

Yes, hydrogen bonds are a dipole-dipole interaction, and happen with a hydrogen and either O,N, or F. They are stronger than basic dipole-dipole interactions.
