VSEPR model

Does anyone know why double bonds and triple bonds are treated the same way as single bonds in the VSEPR model? And even though the VSEPR model doesn't distinguish between types of bonds, do double/triple bonds actually affect the shape of the molecule?

I think it's because the electrons are still within that region, instead of it having one pair that is located there, it is two or three pairs there but they are still in that region.

A multiple bond is just treated as one region of electron density. The electrons in double and triple bonds stay together and repel other bonds/lone pairs as a single unit.

Because the bonds are still within the same region and repel other regions of electrons.
