Dipole Moments
I'm still a little unclear about what exactly dipole moments are could someone explain it to me?

Re: Dipole Moments
It's a way to indicate the pull of electrons. It all depends on electronegativity. For example, O will pull electrons towards it in a C-O bond so this creates a dipole moment.

Re: Dipole Moments
Dipole moments are the measurements of the separation of two opposite electric charges, for example the charge of H and the charge of O in the molecule H2O. Nonpolar molecules have very small or no dipole moments while polar molecules have a higher dipole moment.

Re: Dipole Moments
Dipoles are created by a charge difference between molecules, with a separation of positive charge and a negative charge within a distance. The dipole arrow points towards the more electronegative atom in the molecule.

Re: Dipole Moments
Dipole moments are formed when atoms don't "share" electrons fairly so the more electronegative atom would pull the electrons to their side creating a temporary charge shift, the dipole moment.
