Effect of Molecular Shape on Lewis Structure

Postby KatelinTanjuaquio 1L » Thu Nov 15, 2018 10:32 pm

When drawing Lewis structures, should we be taking the molecular shapes into consideration?

I think it is important to especially when lone pairs are included. However I don't think the drawings need to be 3D.

Not really, Lewis structures are 2-dimensional models and thus couldn't perfectly represent a 3-dimensional molecular shape.

Yeah, I don't you have to take molecular shapes into consideration when drawing Lewis Structures. However, I do think you should be able to recognize molecular shape when looking at a Lewis Structure from the electron density.
