14B Co-Requisites

I just signed up for Chemistry 14B but it says that there are certain pre-requisites and co-requisites that I have to be taking. It says I need to be taking a math b series (math 3B, LS 30B, etc.) but I am not currently in a math series and have not taken any part of one. Will this make me unable to take the class until spring quarter or is it just a suggestion? If I already enrolled should I drop it? Will Dr. Lavelle drop me from it?

I don't think "my ucla" will let you enroll in Chem14B if you have not fulfilled the requirements. For Chem14B, you need to have taken Math 3B/31B or LS30B before or you could also take Math 3B/31B or LS 30B with Chem14B at the same time. Unfortunately, because you have not started the math series, I don't think you will be able to enroll in Chem14B.

I think it really depends, because I was once able to enrol in a class I didn't have the pre-requisite or the co-requisite for (I was taking the pre-requisite along with the actual class). If my.ucla lets you enrol and the prof doesn't drop you, then you're good to go. It's just that you'll be much more prepared for the class/understand it better after doing the pre- and co-requisite courses.

Yea I am in the same situation as you because I took chem14a and ls7a this quarter, and you need ls30a for chem14b. I am taking ls30a winter quarter to fulfill the prerequisite, and am going to take chem14b spring quarter.

I know with writing classes, if you don’t fufill the prerequisites, Myucla doesn’t even allow you to enroll in the course. I’m not sure how it is for math and chem but maybe you could talk to lavelle and see if that would be acceptable. If you have AP credit for math that might also get you out of math 3a and allow you to enroll in 3b and 14b at the same time. hopefully that helped!
