Test 3

Postby Summer de Vera 2C » Fri Nov 16, 2018 10:30 pm

Hi! For test 3, does anyone know if we need to memorize the whole VSEPR chart or have basic knowledge about some of the shapes? Thanks!

I think it would be best to memorize the VSEPR chart, but I also think as you do more homework problems, it becomes intuitive and easier to figure out which shape each molecule is.

I think memorizing would make it easier because knowing what shape corresponds to how many bonds and lone pairs makes it easier on the test. Also, the bond angles that aren't exact also should be memorized because it's most likely going to be on the test. My tutor told me to make flash cards to memorize the shapes but whatever works for you!

Yeah memorizing will be easier I made flashcards which are pretty helpful.

He said its easier if we memorize them so i suggest to learn.

in our discussion our TA went over a total of 10? shapes and I think that's all we need to know

You should memorize it. Doing the practice problems in the book will help you memorize them.

You should memorize the table so it can help a ton when you're doing the test.

Memorizing them would definitely help you do the problems faster and focus on other parts of the problem.

My TA Joyce emailed out her notes and it's incredibly useful for the VSPER Model chart, detailing lone pairs, electron density, and molecular shape that you should memorize!

You should memorize them! We will need to know them by memory for the test, as the VSEPR models are not inc.uded on the constants and equations sheet.

It would be easier to memorize them. You can also figure out the shapes by knowing how many areas of electron density there are and the lone pairs with the notation.

Hi! I think it would be best if you do memorize them since theyre not on the formula sheet for the test.

Does anyone know where/if there's a VSEPR chart in the 6th edition of the textbook?

I think memorizing them would help especially knowing the bond angles for the each one.

I believe we have to memorize them, but I think doing more practice problems will help to become more familiar with them.
