Re: Determining bond type
Single bonds are sigma bonds. Double bonds are one sigma and one pi bond. Triple bonds are one sigma and two pi bonds.

Re: Determining bond type
From my understanding, as of so far, there is always one sigma bond between two atoms and the rest are pi bonds between those same atoms.

Re: Determining bond type
Single Bond = 1 sigma bond
Double Bond = 1 sigma bond + 1 pi bond
Triple Bond = 1 sigma bond + 2 pi bonds
Double Bond = 1 sigma bond + 1 pi bond
Triple Bond = 1 sigma bond + 2 pi bonds

Re: Determining bond type
Sigma bonds come first before pi bonds. Thus, a single bond consists of only one sigma bond. A double bond consists of a sigma bond and a pi bond. A triple bond consists of a sigma bond and two pi bonds.
