double and triple bonds

Postby katietietsworth_3c » Sat Nov 24, 2018 9:53 am

when there are a double or triple bond hows does that affect the vsepr structure?

Double and triple bonds are still only one region of electron density; therefore, it does not affect the naming of the molecule or the vsepr structure.

single, double, and triple bonds are all the same when using the VSEPR model.

Single, Double, and Triple bonds are all one region of electron density. Bond type does not affect the naming of the VSEPR structure, each bond is counted as one region of electron density.

Whether it’s single, double, or triple, it is still one region of e- density so there is no change. Lone pairs, however, do affect bond angles of the VSEPR structure.

A double or triple bond affects the shape in the VSEPR model the same way that a single bond affects the shape. The type of bond does not matter, but what matters is the number of regions of electron density, therefore one single bond is a region, one double bond is also one region. The fact that it is a double or triple bond does not affect the number of regions of electron density.

We treat double bonds and triple bonds like they are a single bond with one region of electron density in the VESPR model.

Single, double and triple bonds are all one electron density.

Single, double, and triple bonds all count as one region of electron density, so the bond type doesn't affect naming using VSEPR.

In this unit, bond type is mainly important when determining sigma and pi bond, but not when counting regions of electron density.

They are still referred to one region of electron density, therefore they act the same as single bonds
