A sigma bond is stronger because of the head to head overlapping, while a pi bond is weaker because of side to side overlapping. A sigma bond requires more energy to break than a pi bond does.

Does knowing whether a bond is a pi bond or sigma bond help us figure out the structure or shape of the molecule?

If you know a bond is a pi bond, and there is one pi bond in a double bond and two pi bonds in a triple bond, it may be helpful in determining correct lewis structures as you know the bond cannot be a single bond.

There is a greater extent of orbital overlap in a sigma bond, thus it is a stronger bond that requires more energy to break.

every bond begins with a sigma bond, then when you have a double bond you have a sigma bond and pi bond, the bonds after that first sigma bond are going to be pi bonds

Sigma bonds have more energy because since they are stronger bonds, they require more energy to be broken than pi bonds. Therefore they have more energy themselves.

If your pi bond refers to the p-p orbitals overlapping, then pi bond is weaker than sigma bond. Double bond is stronger than single bond because double bond consists of a pi bond and a sigma bond. Whereas sigma bond results from s-orbital overlap which has greater area of interaction and overlapping.
