How to Measure Bond Lengths

Postby Samantha Burmester 3H » Sun Nov 25, 2018 11:49 pm

Are they experimentally measured? If so, are we just required to know the trend of the length dependent on the atom and type?

You do need to know that single bonds are the longest, then it's doubles bonds and triple bands are the shortest out of the three.

I believe we only need to know the trend, if we need it on the exam we will be given the specific one.

You do not need to know the exact bond lengths, but you do need to know general trends that vary across different types of bonds. Exact bond lengths will be given if they are necessary, if I’m not mistaken.

We only need to know the trends, not the exact bond lengths.
