Bond Angles Preference

Postby Lauren Huang 1H » Wed Nov 28, 2018 11:41 am

Would it be ok if I wrote the bond angles for 3 bonds pairs and 1 lone pair to be 107.5, and the bond angles for 2 bond pairs and 2 lone pairs to be 104.5? Or would writing "less than 109.5 degree" be preferred?

I think that the "less than 109.5" method would be preferred because vsepr cannot predict exact bond angles when lone pairs are involved.

I think < 109.5 should be used, since its easier to make a mistake when memorizing all of those numbers, but in the end I don't think it actually matters.
