It is a constant used to show the equilibrium of a reaction. Ka refers to acid dissociation, while Kb refers to bases.

K is an equilibrium constant which is a number that expresses the relationship between the amounts of products and reactants present at equilibrium in a reversible chemical reaction at a given temperature. Ka values are equilibrium constants that correspond to acids in their reactions with water and Kb values are equilibrium constants that correspond to bases in their reactions with water. We'll learn more about it in 14B!
