Amphoteric clarification
An amphoteric compound can only act as an acid or a base at once, correct? It can't act as both at the same time right?

Re: Amphoteric clarification
Yes. One amphoteric molecule could be H20 but that still can't act both as a base or acid. It depends whether the other molecule reacting with water is more basic or acidic.

Re: Amphoteric clarification
Yes, it is highly unlikely for an amphoteric molecule to act as both an acid and a base at one time because it would require the simultaneous donation and acceptance of a hydrogen ion by that molecule.
