Polydentate Ligands

Postby kevinav » Fri Dec 07, 2018 12:36 pm

Are we expected to know the names and structures of some polydentate ligands? If so, which ones?

I think we need to know C2H8O2.

I think some other important ones are ethylenediamine (ea) (NH2CH3CH2NH2) and oxalate (C2O4). They're both bidentate and show up fairly frequently. As for structure, they're fairly easy to figure out if you just break the atoms into the groups as they're named (i.e. NH2 + CH2 + ...). Just make sure there are two spots where the molecule can use to bind to the coordination compound.
