What exactly are the roles of ligands in biological processes and what do they connect to in the body?

Chronium - assists insulin in control of blood sugar
Iron - facilitates electron transfer in the oxidation of carbohydrates, proteins and fats
Cobalt - for Vitamin B12
Manganese, Nickel, Copper and Zinc - critical for enzime function.

Magnesium ligands are in chlorophyll and critical for electron transport chain there.
