oxidation state calculation

Postby May Xiao 1H » Sat Dec 08, 2018 9:13 am

[NiCl4]2-
[Ag(NH3)2]+
[PtCl2(en)2]2+
[Cr(edta)]-

why are the oxidation states of TMs 4;2;6;6?
I understand that en & edta are polydante, but how does it affect the oxidation state of TM

Hi! The coordination numbers of the TMs are 4, 2, 6, 6. The oxidation state is the charge of the TM, while the coordination number is the number of bonds that the TM has to ligands. Hope this helps!
