how would you go about answering this question? how do you chose the bases and acids; is the a rule to follow?

This question deals with neutralization, which mean that it is a reaction between an acid and a base, whose product is always a salt and water; it also usually involves the combination of H+ and –OH to generate water. Knowing this, you also then know the products of your reaction, which are water and the formation of the salt stated in the problem. For example, for (a). the products are KBr + H2O. Now, just work backwards to make sure that your reactants consist of one acid and one base, and that the chemical equation is balanced.

oh, that makes sense! What about J9) b). no water is produced, so how can I make the equation?

For Part A, water is produced as OH- is taken from KOH and an H atom is taken from CH3COOH, thus leaving CH3CO2K as the salt produced
