products to reactants ratio

Postby Hailey Boehm 2H » Thu Jan 10, 2019 5:09 pm

Why does the ratio of products to reactants increase in situations where there are a greater amount of moles of reactant present in a container of an equal volume? Does partial pressure play a role?

If the temperature and volume is the same in two containers, and they are undergoing the same reaction, their equilibrium constants will be the same even if they have different concentrations of reactant. If you are just looking at the ratio of product/reactant (not K, which takes into account stoichiometric coefficients), then the container with more reactant at equilibrium will have a smaller ratio than the other container.
