Chem 20A to Chem 14B

Postby Ashe Chen 2C » Thu Jan 10, 2019 10:37 pm

Hi all,
I took Chem 20A last quarter and my advisor said that there should be no issue for me in taking Chem 14B this quarter. However, I've noticed that the material differs drastically from the 20 series and I was wondering, realistically, how transferrable is the knowledge from the 20 series to the 14 series?
Thanks so much

My roommate is in 20B right now, and her syllabus looks pretty similar to ours. Her class spends some time on reaction stoichiometry, which we did in 14A, but a majority of her content is thermodynamics and chemical equilibria, which is what we are starting right now. I'm sure you'd be totally fine switching, especially at such an early time in the quarter!

Hi! I think it's not possible to switch from 14A to 20A, but the other way round is totally fine. You'll be able to catch up on anything we've done so far and to be honest, you probably won't need to catch up on much anyways!

The 14 series is very similar to AP Chemistry so if you took that in high school you will be fine. The 20 series just tends to go more in-depth on certain topics but the material is more or less the same as the 14 series.
