Effect of increased concentration on equilibrium
If you have already established equilibrium what will happen when you increase the concentration of the reactants?

Re: Effect of increased concentration on equilibrium
More product will be produced until equilibrium of concentrations is restored.

Re: Effect of increased concentration on equilibrium
In addition to more products getting produced, the concentration of any other reactants in the reaction would decrease.

the system will favor the forward reaction and produce more products

Re: Effect of increased concentration on equilibrium
The same would also go if you increased the concentration of products, the system will favor the opposite direction, the backwards reaction.

Re: Effect of increased concentration on equilibrium
What about if the reaction is not at equilibrium? How increasing the concentration affect the equilibrium?

Re: Effect of increased concentration on equilibrium
The reaction would compensate by forming more products and therefore shift to the right.
Re: Effect of increased concentration on equilibrium
Think of Le Chatelier's Principle. If a dynamic equilibrium is disturbed by changing the conditions, the position of equilibrium moves to counteract the change.
