Changes in pressure
According to 11.69, an increase in pressure of the product causes the partial pressure of a reactant to decrease. How is this? Is there a general rule in predicting how pressure influences the changes in equilibria

Re: Changes in pressure
When there is an increase in pressure, the reaction will occur in the direction w/ fewer moles of gas.

Re: Changes in pressure
By Le Chatelier's Principle, the system works to minimize any changes in pressure. If the pressure of the system increases by way of decreasing volume, it responds by shifting in the direction of the least separate molecules so as to reduce particle collisions and decrease pressure. If pressure is increased by way of increasing volume, the system responds by shifting in the direction of the greater number of moles, so if the reactants have more moles than products, it shifts in that direction.
