Water in K

Postby Aurbal Popal » Sat Jan 19, 2019 3:06 pm

So usually when we do the equilibrium constants, we do not include water in the equation as it is in excess. But when do we include water in the equation? Are there exceptions to this?

When dealing with aqueous solutions with water as the solvent, we would not include water in the equilibrium constant because it is in excess. However, some equilibrium reactions include water in a gaseous phase. In this case, water would be included when solving for K.

Can water be in the form (aq) or does it only usually occur as a liquid or gas?

We never include water when expressing the equilibrium equation because it's always in excess with no exceptions that Dr. Lavelle has addressed in his class.
