pKa

Postby KatelinTanjuaquio 1L » Mon Jan 21, 2019 10:24 pm

What is pKa exactly? This is a problem I was working on:

When the pH of 0.10 m HClO2(aq) was measured,
it was found to be 1.2. What are the values of Ka and pKa of chlorous acid?

Why is it that sometimes pKa is equal to pH and other times it is not?

pKa is the negative log of the Ka, which is just the K value but for a weak acid.

pKA and pH tend to have different values. While pH is just a way of seeing the concentration of hydrogen by the scale of ten, pKa is a way of seeing the Ka by the scale of ten. The Ka is a number used to describe the relation between products and reactants. that is why its concentration of products over concentration of reactants.
