What is the purpose of a calorimeter and how does it work?

A calorimeter is an instrument that is used to measure the amount of energy transferred as heat during a chemical reaction. We can use it to calculate the specific heat of a substance.

A calorimeter is a tool used to measure the amount of heat used in a chemical reaction or process. It is used by measuring the temperature difference of the reaction.

Basically a calorimeter is a reaction vessel, so it acts as a container for a reaction to take place. It allows you to make measurements about temperature changes, volume, etc. that you can use to calculate enthalpy changes/heat capacities, etc.

Because most calorimeters have insulating properties that allow for the heat of the reaction to not disperse outside of the container. This allows for more accurate results and less experimental error.
