How exactly does one use bond enthalpies?

We use the bond enthalpy to calculate delta H.

This is the equation to find delta H and gives the change in enthalpy for the reaction.
ΔH= (energy needed to break the reactant bonds) - (energy released by forming the product bonds)

Do we use bond enthalpy for 8.51 in the 6th edition? I'm having a hard time with the Lewis structure, and the solution manual doesn't explicitly state that they used the bond enthalpies
