open, closed, isolated
Is there any type of system that does not fit into this, has qualities of both open and closed say? If this is the case, how to you classify the system?

To my understanding, all systems fit into one of these three categories. Even if there is some system that does not, I do not think we will be expected to understand how it fits into multiple categories.

A thermodynamic system should be one of the three types: open, closed, or isolated
Here are the definitions of each type that can help you decipher which system fits with each type of system.
An isolated system cannot transfer energy or matter with its surroundings.
A closed system can transfer energy (heat or work) but not matter with its surroundings.
An open system can transfer both energy and matter with its surroundings.

For thermodynamics, a system should always be able to fit one of these three descriptions. However, for isolated systems, these are typically a lot harder to replicate in nature or in labs because its hard to make sure no energy or matter can get in or out. Examples like a thermos that is insulated are proper approximations though.
