Calorimeters

Postby Maria Solis Disc 1G » Sun Feb 03, 2019 7:58 pm

Can someone explain the different types of calorimeters there are. I am lost on how to recognize what calorimeter to use and how to solve these types of problems.

These are the ones that I found

Adiabatic Calorimeters.
Reaction Calorimeters.
Bomb Calorimeters (Constant Volume Calorimeters)
Constant Pressure Calorimeters.
Differential Scanning Calorimeters.

I think that more than the type of calorimeter you use, you need to understand how to do the calculations. Usually it will give you the amount of heat absorbed by the calorimeter, so you need to recognize that the system is losing heat. You take the negative of the heat absorbed by the calorimeter, and you have your value for q. You can then use the value of q and/or the formula q = mc(Tf-Ti) to solve the question.
