inert conductor in cell diagrams
When writing the cell diagram for a reaction, when do we need to add inert conductor (such as Pt)?

Re: inert conductor in cell diagrams
You add the inert conductor when the reactants or products don't involve a conducting solid.

Re: inert conductor in cell diagrams
Put the inert conductor in the cell diagram with a phase boundary just as if it were another part of the cell.

Re: inert conductor in cell diagrams
The inert conductor is added when there is no conducting solid, meaning that the reactants and products for that half reaction are aqueous in solution. The cell reaction leads to a transfer in electrons and this must be done through a conductor, which is usually Platinum if nothing else is given.
