A compound is stable if the delta G of the reaction is < 0. This means that the reaction is spontaneous and proceeds to the forward reaction so the products are stable.
A reaction is unstable if delta G > 0.
Stability and unstability are related to the tendency of a reaction to decompose into its elements.
