6L5(b) 7th edition

when writing the cell diagram, how do you know when to write Pt(s) on each electrode side??

If there is no solid metal at either the cathode or the anode to pass an electric current, Pt must be added. If there is no solid on the cathode side, Pt is added on the right and if there is no solid on the anode then Pt is added to the left. If there is no solid on either side then Pt is added to both sides.
