What is the difference between a reducing agent and a reduced species? And an oxidizing agent vs a oxidized species?

A reducing agent is the substance that has the ability to reduce other substances, by losing electrons and being oxidized.The reduced species is the thing that is reduced (gain electrons)
An oxidizing agent is the substance that has the ability to oxidize other substances, by gaining electrons and being reduced. The oxidized species is the thing that is oxidized (loses electrons)
Therefore, reducing agent = oxidized species and oxidizing agent = reduced species.

I dislike these terms because of the confusion that they bring. The simplest way to think about it is that reduced species are oxidizing agents and oxidized species are reducing agents.
Reduced species gain an electron, by pulling an electron from a specie, therefore the reduced species act as the AGENT that causes oxidation.
On the other hand, oxidation species lose an electron, and provide the necessary electron for a reduction to occur, therefore they act as the AGENT that causes reduction.
