Chemistry News
I wasn't able to find a place to post interesting articles or news, so I thought why not make a place for them. I'll start it off.
I'm a fan of IFL Science, and the most recent article in their Chemistry section just to happens to be related to thermochemistry. Have a look; it's pretty neat:

Thanks for the correction. :) I guess I meant related to heat/temperature.

This is an interesting article. Most solids expand when they are heated. However, scandium fluoride, shrink when it is heated. This is because even though the bonds are stable, the fluoride atoms are free to move a bit. This mix of rigidity causes the crystal to buckle. The article talks about the findings of microproteins and how it can be linked to cancer
Just read, thanks for sharing! So cool to see the links between all the little parts of our lives and how interconnected they all are.

Just read this article. It's so interesting that the addition of silica to vaccines can expand the shelf life potentially to 15 years on some vaccines. Especially during times like these where covid vaccines are being produced and exported in huge quantities, the idea that we could minimize wasted vaccines inspires hope and is particularly inspiring.

I found an interesting article that discusses the function of 'pleasure' molecules in our brain. It brings up a cool discovery that dopamine is actually not a reward molecule at all despite textbooks assuming so. Here's the link: https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2 ... 131312.htm

This article talks about recent discoveries on persulfides and its possible role in health, aging, and disease processes when combined with other complex molecules. I really enjoyed reading this and learning how sulfur can enhance our daily lives. Here is the link: https://phys.org/news/2021-10-method-su ... cules.html

This article discusses how mercury travels from the atmosphere to the sea and contaminates our food. This is interesting because it is so relevant to California considering how the population consumes so much sea food here.

This is more at the crossroads of biochemistry, but here's an interesting article about a new CRISPR development where they were able to restore a woman with a rare eye disease's vision.
